CJ Rides for a Reason

I had the pleasure of speaking with CJ's mom, Katie Burford, this morning after receiving a call from her last week. CJ met some of our Finish Strong Elite Team cyclists at the Winston Salem Cycling Classic a few weeks ago. CJ was impressed with our desire to spread the word of God through our sport. Since CJ was 5 years old, he told his mommy that God wanted him to ride across the US. He has since been on a path in the right direction. I have included part of an email from CJ's mom sent to me today.

CJ is 8 years old and has just finished 2nd grade. He is now being home schooled. Over the past year, CJ has ridden in several big local charity rides including the Tour de Tammy, Tour de Pig, Rites of Spring, and the Mini Fondo and Honor “Lap” in this past month’s Winston Salem Cycling Classic.

CJ just recently completed a bike ride across the state of North Carolina to raise money for Samaritan’s Purse Children’s Heart Project. He finished the ride on May 25th with a total of 437 miles from the mountains on the TN/NC border right outside of Banner Elk to the Beach on Emerald Isle. He was joined on this ride by his dad and a family friend. Several bike clubs and individual riders also joined him along the route. The first two days while he was in the Banner Elk area, the Director of Cycling from Lees-McRae, Doug Owen, rode with CJ. Many news papers across the state covered his story. The more people who hear about his trip, the more people who may give to the awesome charity he chose to ride for this time.

We will continue to cheer for your guys at races, and keep in touch with Finish-Strong! We are happy to see Christians using cycling for Jesus!!
